Dawgs Dominate Devils on Friday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bryant women's volleyball team dominated against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils and won in a 3-0 sweep. Bryant opens the Friar Classic 1-0 and improves to 6-3 on the season.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS

"It was so great having Miranda back on the court. Melis did a great job setting and changing the flow of the ball. Aubrey hit .765, Mo hit .500, and Nina .417.  Josie was super consistent again leading the defense with digs."

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Central Connecticut)

  • Set 1 – Bryant got off to a hot start in the first set going on a 6-1 run that featured kills from Aubrey Lapour, Brookelyn Talmadge, and Lea Mackey. Central Connecticut would rally and bring the deficit to five however their offense would stall and only manage to put up five more points in the set with Bryant winning 25-13. Arianna Ugolini and Lapour each had 5 kills and Josie Deluga posted 8 digs.

  • Set 2 –The Bulldogs would go on to make an even more emphatic statement in the second set by scoring 10 straight points ; turning a 5-4 set into a 15-4 domination. Bryant saw service aces from Carrina Barron, Grace Sorensen, Arianna Ugolini, and Miranda Jantzen. The Bulldogs would win the set 25-11; scoring 19 total points as a team.

  • Set 3 – Central Connecticut held their own in the deciding set however Bryant would get the better thanks to pivotal kills from Sorensen and Talmadge to break the 9-9 tie. Lapour would add another 6 kills and Melis Isik would post 15 assists and win the match on a service ace. Final Score 25-16.

STATS

  • Bryant hit .355 as a team in the match compared to Central Connecticut's .051.

  • Aubrey Lapour led the Bulldogs in kills for the match with 14; hitting .765

  • Morgan Smith hit .500 for the match and Nina Gavin hit .417.

  • Melis Isik posted a career high 21 assists. 

  • Central Connecticut's Madison Massaro-Cook led the Blue Devils with 19 assists.

MATCH NOTES

  • Three Bulldogs had multiple block assists on the evening. (Lapour 6, Talmadge 3, and Smith 3).

  • Josie Deluga had a remarkable defensive outing; posting 17 digs in 3 sets.

The Bulldogs will close out the Friar Classic tomorrow with matches against Saint Peter's and Providence College.
