COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS

"We need to play better defense as a team and keep a consistent level of intensity."

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Fairfield)

  • Set 1 – The Stags opened the match on a 7-1 run and got off to a hot start against the Bulldogs which became difficult to relinquish. Bryant stayed competitive and got to within four with a kill from Miranda Jantzen. However, Fairfield would be able to ride their early momentum to a 25-13 set win.

  • Set 2 – The Bulldogs collected themselves and started the second set strong thanks to two straight kills from Aubrey Lapour. Bryant would ride a comfortable lead for a good portion of the set, but Fairfield would rally back and tie the score at 16 on an Allie Elliott kill. The Bulldogs would break the tie on a Lea Mackey kill and would battle back and forth for the remainder of the set. The set would be extended to 28 all and would finally come to a close thanks to another series of kills by Lapour to make it a 30-28 final. Lapour would finish with 8 total kills in the set and Josie Deluga and Morgan Smith each had service aces.

  • Set 3- Bryant got off to a similar run in the third, however, Fairfield made a late comeback and tied the score at 15. Consecutive kills from Morgan Smith would only prove to keep the Stags at bay for a short time as they would tie the score once again at 18 and finish the set on a 7-2 run and win 25-20.

  • Set 4- The Black and Gold would open the fourth set on a 6-0 run thanks to excellent serving by Miranda Jantzen and kills by Lea Mackey and Aubrey Lapour. Carolina Camacho stood out defensively as she and Lapour each had 4 digs. The Bulldogs finish strong with kills by Arianna Ugolini and win 25-20.

  • Set 5-Bryant and Fairfield were neck and neck to open up the final set, however the Stags would gain momentum thanks to strong play from Allie Elliott and Svenja Rodenbusch who each had multiple kills in the fifth. Lapour, Ugolini, and Smith all recorded multiple kills, but Fairfield would come out on top and win by a final set score of 15-9.
