Coach Garlacy announces captains for 2024 season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head volleyball coach Theresa Garlacy has announced the program's captains for the 2024 fall season. Fabi Castro and Aubrey Lapour will return as captains and will welcome Carolina Camacho to lead a Bulldog team fresh off an appearance in the America East Conference Tournament. 

"Fabi, Aubrey and CC [Carolina] bring a unique grouping of leadership skills that include experience, intensity, empathy, dedication and determination" said Coach Garlacy. "They have all been part of some of our most successful Division I era teams. They will pursue excellence both on and off the court and will motivate our young team to perform at an extremely high level. We are so excited to see what they will accomplish."

After being limited to 1 match last season with injury, Fabi Castro is ready to return to Smithfield for her 5th year. During her last full season in 2022, Castro set career highs with 160 kills (1.45 per set), 140 digs (1.27 per set), and 33 blocks through 31 matches. While recovering in 2023, she aided her coaches with the development of her teammates.

Lapour is coming off a career season in Smithfield in which led the Black and Gold in kills with 387 to go along with 79 blocks and 76 digs. In the Bulldogs thrilling five set victory over Binghamton, she would reach 600 career kills and help her team clinch a spot in the conference tournament  Lapour would be named First Team All-Conference by the America East as well as receive All-Academic honors. 

Carolina Camacho is promoted to captain following a stellar junior campaign that saw her become the 6th player in the program's Division I history to eclipse 1000 career assists. Camacho would finish the 2023 season top 3 in the conference in assists with 626 and would also tally 28 service aces.

Bryant will open their spring season on March 23rd when they will compete in the Northeastern Tournament.
