BRYANT CROSS COUNTRY SET TO COMPETE IN CODFISH BOWL SATURDAY

BRYANT CROSS COUNTRY SET TO COMPETE IN CODFISH BOWL SATURDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant cross country team will compete in the 2010 Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston this Saturday.  Both the men's and women's teams will be competing, with the women's team running in a 5k at 11 a.m. and the men's team taking part in an 8k at 11:30 am. Saturday's race will be the Bulldog's third of the season.

On the men's side, Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.), Ben Coughlin (Worcester, Mass.), David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) and Colin Gannon (Litchfield, Conn.) have led the team with their performances in the Bryant Invitational 5k and Central Connecticut State University Cross Country Invitational. Twardowski was Bryant's best finisher at the Bryant Invitational, taking 11th place, while Hurley, Gannon, and Coughlin finished 27th, 30th, and 40th, respectively in a field of 87 runners. Hurley led the way in the CCSU Invitational with a 23rd place finish, while Coughlin, Gannon and Twardowski came in 33rd, 35th, and 47th respectively in a field of 102 runners.

For the women, sophomore Megan Robertson (Sewell, NJ.), freshmen Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and Martha Reynolds (London, England) have been leading the way. Robertson placed 16th in the Bryan Invitational and 29th in the CCSU Invitational. Reynolds finished 16th and Black finished 30th in the CCSU Invitational, their first official collegiate race.

Bryant's men's team was picked to finish 10th in this season's NEC coaches poll, while the women's team was predicted to finish 7th. The men finished 10th last year, while the women finished 8th.

The Black and Gold will be joined by St. Anselm College, Adelphi University, Southern New Hampshire, Manhattanville, Castleton State College, Emmanuel College, Merrimack, and UMass Boston at the Codfish Bowl on Saturday.
