Bryant student-athletes excel in the classroom as 74 earn Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll recognition

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A total of 74 Bryant University student-athletes were named to the Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 12 student-athletes earning Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.

The NEC Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above, and the league saw a five percent increase in 2010-11 with 829 student-athletes qualifying for the distinction. Of those 829 student-athletes, 174 were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, an accolade that recognizes those who have maintained a GPA of 3.75 or above.

Of the 13 Bulldog student-athletes earning Commissioner's Honor Roll distinctions, at least one comes from each of the seven fall programs and the list includes eight freshmen, three sophomores, a junior and one senior. Women's cross country and football led the way with three qualifiers each. Sophomore Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) and freshmen Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and Lauren Ganim (Trumbull, Conn.) earned the distinction for the runners, while football freshmen Richard Casiello (Pawtucket, R.I.) and John Mahoney (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), along with junior Julien Dumont (Saint Hubert, Quebec), made the cut from the gridiron. Two Bulldogs apiece came from men's cross country, sophomore Colin Gannon (Litchfield, Conn.) and senior Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) and field hockey, freshman Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) and sophomore Chelsea Theokas (Merrimack, N.H.), while freshman Terence Morrissey (Hingham, Mass.) of the men's soccer team, women's soccer freshman Alyssa Kozlowski (Ellicott City, Md.), and volleyball freshman Mikayla LaRosa (Marysville, Wash.) also made the grades worthy of the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Bryant football placed 18 student-athletes on the NEC Academic Honor Roll to lead the pack, while men's and women's soccer each placed 12 on the list. Field hockey earned 11 selections, volleyball nine, men's cross country saw seven and women's cross country put five on the exclusive roll call.
