SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's and women's cross country teams head to the Constitution State Saturday, Sept. 24, to compete in the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University.

Both teams are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Monmouth Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and junior David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) led their respective groups across the finish line. Black finished a career-best seventh and Hurley finished 24th on the men's side.

Last weekend saw two women improve their times from the first race of the season. Sophomore Lauren Ganim (Trumbull, Conn.) cut four seconds off her time and set a personal-best of 21:21, finishing 86th. Freshman Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) improved her time from the Bryant Invitational by six seconds and was the fourth Bulldog to cross the finish line.

After being the second Bulldog to cross the line in the opening meet, Hurley out-distanced teammate Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.) by seven seconds at the Monmouth Invitational. Sophomore Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) finished third for the Bulldogs and the next three runners, graduate student Stephen Wood (North Providence, R.I.), sophomore Jeffrey Dorosh (Naugatuck, Conn.) and senior Ben Polichronopoulos (South Berwick, Maine), all finished within 10 seconds of each other.

Saturday's race will be the final tune up for the men and women as they prepare for the New England Championships in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 8.
