As a sophomore: Did not compete in any races for the Bulldogs.

As a freshman: Competed in four races during his freshman season in 2012 ... Posted his best time of the season at the UAlbany Invitational, finishing 50th with a time of 30:51 ... Finished 89th at the NEC Championships with a time of 31:43.64 ... Finished 120th at the Nassaney Invitational (32:08.6).

Before Bryant: Lettered three years on the varsity cross country team and the indoor and outdoor track & field teams at North Andover ... Holds the North Andover school record in the 600m and was a member of the 4x400 indoor school-record team ... Captained the track & field teams in his final season ... Named a Cape Ann League All-Star during the indoor season ... Member of the German National Honor Society and band.

Personal: The son of Kathleen and William Varney, Brendan Varney was born on Nov. 5, 1993 ... Brother, Darryl, was on track & field team at University of Notre Dame from 2010-11 and now is member of the T&F team at Tufts University ... Parents both ran cross country and track & field at Bryant ... Father, William, between 1977-81 and mother, Kathleen, from 1979-1983.
