Black claims title at Father Bede Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) claimed her first victory of the year and two others placed in the top 10 as the Bryant University women's cross country team finished second at the Father Bede Invitational on Saturday morning in Loretto, Pa.

The Bulldog women finished with 54 points, just nine behind Sacred Heart for first place. Robert Morris, Central Connecticut and Fairleigh Dickinson rounded out the top five. On the men's side, the Black and Gold finished with 156 points to tie Mount St. Mary's for sixth place. Central Connecticut placed five runners in the top 10 to take first.

Running in her first race of the year, Black won the women's 5K with a time of 18:34. Senior Martha Reynolds (London, England) finished sixth (19:45) and sophomore Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) finished right behind in seventh (19:55). Sophomore Erin Svensen (Medway, Mass.) finished 19th with a time of 20:50.

On the men's side, junior Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs with a 21st-place finish. He crossed the finish line with a time of 28:38. Sophomore Thomas Mullally (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) finished 28th (28:58), senior Jeffrey Dorosh (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished 30th (29:03) and freshman Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) finished 38th (29:36) to round out Bryant's top four runners.
