Black earns second Fall Scholar Athlete honor

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After putting the finishing touches on one of the greatest cross country careers in program and Northeast Conference history this past fall, senior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) was named the NEC women's cross country Scholar Athlete for the second-straight season, the league announced on Wednesday.

Coming off a historic junior season in which she won the NEC championship by 13 seconds, Black was even better in 2013. The Ireland native cruised to her second-straight individual championship, winning the race by over a minute and shattering her own course record at the Immergrun Golf Club. In doing so, she helped the Bulldogs to a second-place team finish, the best in program history. A two-time NEC Most Outstanding Performer, three-time All-NEC selection and seven-time NEC Athlete of the Week over the course of her career, Black went on to finish 21st at the NCAA Northeast Regional, earning All-Northeast honors in the process. Black has been a member of the NEC Academic and Commissioner's Honor Roll each year at Bryant and the Biology major currently sports a 3.93 cumulative grade point average.

The Northeast Conference awards the honor of Scholar-Athlete to one individual in each sport each season, and to earn the award, nominees must have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.20 and participate with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC also announced its Fall Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 581 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade-point average.  There were also 166 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better grade point average.

Twelve Bulldogs were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while 68 Bryant University student-athletes were named to the NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.
