Bulldogs compete in summer leagues

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant will have 12 student-athletes playing in six different summer baseball leagues, including the New England Collegiate Baseball League (4), Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (3), Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (1), Prospect League (2), Valley League (1) and the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (1).

Rising junior outfielder and 2011 All-Northeast Conference Second Team selection Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.) will stay local and play for the Keene Swamp Bats. Joining Brown in the NECBL is rising sophomore Joseph Carcone (New Hartford, N.Y.), who is playing for the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide. Rising senior Brian O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.) will play for the NECBL's New Bedford Baysox, while righthanded hurler Craig Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) will take the mound for the Mystic Schooners.

A trio of Bulldogs will stick together for the summer in the ABCCL, taking up mitts with the Monmouth Monarchs. Pitchers Jonathan Cohen (Norwalk, Conn.) and Ryan Granat (Long Valley, N.J.) will both throw for the New Jersey-based club, while Jonathon Scott (Princeton, N.J.) completes the battery, catching for the Monarchs through the summer months.

Starting first baseman Jamie Skagerlind (Holden, Mass.) and rising sophomore Salvatore Lisanti (Bronx, N.Y.) will both head out to Indiana and the Prospect League, where they will look to lead the Dubois County Bombers out of the basement and into the playoffs.

Rising junior Peter Kelich (Jackson, N.J.) will represent the Black and Gold on the roster of the Haymarket Senators this summer, playing out of the Shenandoah Valley (Va.)-based Valley Baseball League, while 2011 All-NEC First Team selection David Soltis (Plainville, Conn.) will look to lead the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dogs in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)'s inaugural season.

Rising sophomore Bryan Menduke (Oakland, N.J.) will throw this summer for the Riverhead Tomcats of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League.
