Kelich earns All-American honors from CBI

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Two months after the 2012 is over, the awards continue to roll in for Bryant University baseball pitcher Peter Kelich (Jackson, N.J.). The right-hander was named an Honorable Mention All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com last Friday.

Already named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year and ABCA Northeast Region Second Team, Kelich becomes the first Bulldog in the Division I era to earn All-American honors. Bryant's Friday starter, Kelich went 8-3 with a 1.81 ERA over 94.1 innings. He struck out 74 and walked just 26 batters.

The New Jersey native was dominant all season long, tossing four complete games, including a pair of shutouts. The shutouts came just two weeks apart as he limited LIU Brooklyn to just seven hits on March 30, and Sacred Heart to a measly three hits on April 13. Kelich matched his career high with 10 strikeouts against the Blackbirds.

On his way to an NEC-leading eight victories, Kelich became just the fifth pitcher in program history to record 20 or more wins in a career. He currently has a 23-7 career record and is just four wins shy of becoming the winningest pitcher in Bulldogs history.
