Bryant downed by FDU on Sunday

TEANECK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson defeated the Bryant University baseball team, 10-6, on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bulldogs were swept for the first time ever in a Northeast Conference series.

Stan DeMartinis III hit his first-career home run as part of a four-run fourth that gave Bryant a 5-1 lead. The Knights, however, scored four times in their half of the fourth and added three late insurance runs.

How it Happened

  • Tommy DiTullio gave Bryant a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second.
  • The Knights tied the game on a sac fly in the bottom half of the second.
  • Bryant regained the lead with a four-run fourth. DiTullio brought home the first run with a ground out and DeMartinis followed with a two-run home run to right field to make it 4-1. John Tuccillo drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-1.
  • FDU tied the game with a three-run home run and a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
  • Bryant retook the lead in the following inning as Randy Carlo IV singled to left to drive in a run.
  • The Knights took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. A ground out tied the game and a single to right made it 7-6.
  • FDU extended its lead with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

  • The series sweep marks the first time Bryant has been swept in an NEC series. Bryant had won or split 80 of its previous 85 NEC series. The Bulldogs have now lost five-straight games in NEC play.
  • A day after posting his first-career multi-hit game, DeMartinis hit his first-career home run.
  • Carlo finished with two hits.
  • Derek Smith had three hits and two runs scored.
  • Smith and Damaurys Rodriguez each stole two bases.
  • DiTullio finished with a pair of RBI.
