Bryant hosts Binghamton in key America East series

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team hosts Binghamton in a key America East series this weekend at Conaty Park. Bryant and Binghamton begin the series Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Bryant and Binghamton are currently tied in the league standings at 10-8. The Bearcats won two-of-three when the teams met at the end of March.

Probable Starting Pitchers 

Friday - Coleman Picard vs. Thomas Babalis
Saturday - Brett Wichrowski vs. Gabe Driscoll
Sunday - Ken Turner vs. Ryan Bryggman

  • Picard has been great his last two starts, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings in total. Last week, he struck out six and allowed just one hit over 4.0 scoreless.
  • Wichrowski earned his team-leading fifth win last week and now owns a 3.14 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 43.0 innings.
  • Turner had allowed three runs or less in three-straight starts before he was touched for five (four earned) last week vs CCSU.
  • Picard and Turner both missed their starts when Bryant and Binghamton met earlier. 
  • Driscoll is 6-0 with a 3.66 ERA for Binghamton.
  • Babalis allowed just one run on five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out seven in his first outing vs Bryant.  

Bryant vs. Binghamton

  • Binghamton won two-of-three when the teams met at the end of March in Vestal. 
  • The Bearcats won the opening game 16-1. Bryant and Binghamton then split a doubleheader on Saturday, with each team earning a 6-4 victory.  

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant enters the weekend at 23-19 overall. The Bulldogs split a pair of non-conference games with Central Connecticut last weekend. 
  • Jake Gustin enters the weekend hitting .351 (5th in the AE), 12 doubles, 34 RBI and 43 runs scored. He is second in the league with 59 hits. 
  • Derek Smith ranks second in the league with 14 doubles and also ranks eighth in the league in home runs (9) and sixth in RBI (39). 
  • Zac Zyons has hit safely in 11-straight games, going 16-for-33 (.485) with three doubles, 11 RBI, 16 runs scored and a .556 OBP. 
  • Bryant is 12-1 at home this year, hitting .327 with 20 home runs.
