Petosa homers twice as Bryant beats UAlbany, 17-4

ALBANY, N.Y. – Carmine Petosa hit a pair of three-run home runs and Luke Delongchamp tossed 5.0 scoreless as the Bryant baseball team clinched a series victory over UAlbany with a 17-4 win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Varsity Field.

The Bulldogs improve to 18-10 overall and 7-1 in America East with the victory. Bryant has won each of its last seven games and is 17-3 since starting the year 1-7. The Bulldogs have now won each of its last five weekend series.

Petosa paced the Bryant offense in game one with a career day that included two three-run home runs and a career-high six RBI. The slugging first baseman has homered three times and driven in 11 in three games this week. Zac Zyons also added a three-run home run, his fourth home run in five games. Zyons, Gavin Noriega, Petosa and Daniel Baruch, Bryant's 1-4 hitters, combined for nine hits, four home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored.

Delongchamp did the rest, limiting the Great Danes to just two singles over 5.0 scoreless. He didn't issue a walk and struck out six to earn his third win of the year.

How it Happened

  • Bryant opened the scoring with a six-run second. The Bulldogs opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles from Shea Grady and Chris Einemann. Gavin Noriega followed with an RBI single to right and Petosa lifted a 3-2 pitch down the right field line for a three-run home run and a 6-0 Bryant lead.
  • In the third, Bryant plated five more runs to make it 11-0. A fielder's choice brought in the first run and Einemann scored the second with a perfect bunt. Zyons then hit a three-run home run down the right field line to make it 11-0.
  • Petosa pushed the lead to 14-0 with a long three-run home run to right center in the fifth.
  • Baruch closed the scoring with an opposite field three-run home run to right center in the seventh, making it 17-0.
