Football adds four to coaching staff

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football coach Marty Fine is pleased to announce the addition of Steve Brickey, Benyard Jones,Ted Daisher and Bob Jazwinski to the Bulldog coaching staff beginning this spring. All four bring a wealth of coaching experience at both the Division I and the professional level to Bryant.

Brickey, a native of Affton, Mo., comes to Bryant from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where he was the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator and coached the quarterbacks for the past four seasons (2007-2010). During his tenure at Samford, quarterback Dustin Taliaferro was named the Southern Conference's Freshman of the Year while the Bulldogs boasted their first 1,000-yard rusher in nearly 10 years.

Prior to arriving at Samford, Brickey was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri State (2006), and the quarterbacks coach at Eastern Illinois (2005) and Indiana State (2004). While at Indiana State, the Sycamores set a new school record for passing yards in a season. It was his third coaching stint at the school after serving as an assistant from 1978 to 1985 and again during the 1992 season, when he was the offensive coordinator.

Brickey also coached the quarterbacks at Iowa State University for four seasons, serving as the passing game coordinator from 2000-01 before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2002-03 seasons. While at ISU, he helped guide the Cyclones to the school's first back-to-back bowl appearances in 23 seasons.

A 1976 graduate of the University of Missouri, where he was a member of the Tiger football team as a quarterback and defensive back, Brickey began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1976-77.

Former Indiana University football captain, Jones will coach the Bulldogs' defensive line in 2011. Jones was previously the defensive line coach at Youngstown State University during the 2009 season, where he assisted in game planning and scout teams. Prior to arriving at YSU, Jones was at Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ark., where he was the defensive line coach from 2006-07 before being promoted to defensive coordinator following the 2007 season.

It was Jones's second stint at Arkansas Tech, after getting his coaching start there as a graduate assistant in 1999. He would remain there until 2005 when he would move to Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. to coach special teams and later serve as the defensive coordinator with a focus on coaching linebackers.

Daisher joins Fine's staff after several stops in the professional ranks. Most recently, Daisher was the defensive line coach for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League in 2010. Prior to that, he spent the 2009 season with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles as the special teams coordinator. It was his second time serving as an assistant for Philadelphia.

In 2004-05, Daisher was the special teams quality control coach and assistant defensive line coach for coach Andy Reid's Eagles, who reached the Super Bowl that season. In between his two stops with Philadelphia, Daisher was the special teams coach with the Oakland Raiders (2006) and for the Cleveland Browns (2007-08).

Daisher also brings a wealth of coaching experience at the collegiate level to Bryant, with an assistant coaching resume that includes Illinois (1979), Northern Illinois (1980-84), Eastern Michigan (1985-88), Cincinnati (1989-92), Army (1995-97), Indiana (1998-2000) and East Carolina (2000-03).

Jazwinski comes to Bryant from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., where he spent the past two seasons as the defensive line coach for the Red Devils. He was an assistant coach at Susquehanna University, where he coached the defensive line for three years.
