Whyte, Bryant still making plays

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Former Bryant University football standouts Aaron Bryant '10 and Andre Whyte '10 have taken their games to the next level, playing semi-professional in the United States and internationally. Bryant was signed by Indoor Football League (AFL 2) Green Bay Blizzard this past spring while Whyte has been a key contributor for the Prague Black Hawks.

Signed on April 18, 2011 by the Green Bay Blizzard, Bryant has already generated 16 total tackles including two sacks in just five games played. The Connecticut native has helped lead the club to the top of the Lakes Division standings with a 12-9 overall mark with just two games remaining.

Bryant, a University of Connecticut transfer, made an immediate impact in his first season for the Black and Gold, finishing second on the team with 63 tackles. The New London, Conn. native recorded a team-high eight sacks in 2009 and led the team with four blocked kicks. The 6-foot-3 run-stopper posted back-to-back 13-tackle performances against Northeast Conference rivals UAlbany and Central Connecticut and was awarded Co-Special Teams Player of the Year at the annual awards banquet.

Overseas, Whyte has played a key role for the Prague Black Hawks, a member of the Czech Republic's First Division, both on offense and defense. Having recorded a 97-yard touchdown the in the club's most recent outing against the Milano Rhino's, the 6-foot-1 versatile playmaker led his team to the EFAF Cup semifinal.

A three-year starter for the Bulldogs, Whyte wrapped up his solid career with 133 total tackles, including three interceptions. A 2009 All-NEC Second Team selection, Whyte registered an interception and nine tackles in his final game in the Black and Gold against Duquesne before picking up Defensive Player  of the Year honors at the team's annual awards banquet.
