Bryant hosts former NE-10 foe Saturday

Game Notes

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team begins a two-game homestand when it welcomes Stonehill College to Bulldog Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Bulldogs (3-2) enter Saturday's contest coming off a, 31-28, loss to Duquesne last weekend in Pittsburgh, Pa. Bryant managed only 64 yards of total offense in the first half but rallied to take the lead twice in the second half before the Dukes scored the winning touchdown with 9:22 to play.

On the other side of the ball, the Skyhawks (1-4) come to Smithfield having lost their last four games. They were dropped by the University of New Haven, the 23rd ranked team in Division II, last weekend, 52-23. Stonehill held a brief 9-7 lead in the second quarter but New Haven scored the next 31 points to pull away.

Saturday's matchup renews a series that began when the Bulldogs began their football program in 1999. The two teams were members of the Northeast-10 up until 2008 when Bryant began its transition to Division I. In eight all-time meetings, Bryant holds a commanding 8-1 lead, having won seven in a row. In the last game between the two schools prior to this Saturday, the Bulldogs scored 34 straight points to start the game on their way to a 34-6 victory at Bulldog Stadium back on Oct. 14, 2007.

Bryant is 1-1 in non-conference games this season, and Saturday's contest will be its final out-of-conference game of the 2011 campaign. It also begins the second half of the season that has the Bulldogs playing four of their final six games at Bulldog Stadium.

Kickoff for Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
