Bulldogs look to clip Hawks Saturday

BULLDOG FOOTBALL HITS THE ROAD AGAINST MONMOUTH

GAME NOTES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In search of their second consecutive victory, the Bryant University football team will travel to West Long Branch, N.J., on Saturday, Oct. 20 to face Monmouth at Kessler Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on 1240 WOON. The Bulldogs will be looking for their first-ever victory over the Hawks.

LAST TIME OUT
In a game that featured seven lead changes Bryant had the last laugh, scoring with 5:35 remaining to take a 38-35 lead before holding on to earn its first win of the season. The Bulldogs and Colonials exchanged TDs three times in the second half before Jordan Harris's (Lincoln University, Pa.) 16-yard reception in the back of the endzone settled it.

Harris's grab was his second TD reception of the contest and put an exclamation point on another outstanding outing from the junior. He caught 10 passes for 201 yards and his first TD came on a fourth-and-one from the RMU 10 and gave Bryant a brief 31-28 lead.
Bryant built a 16-7 first half lead behind the arm of Mike Westerhaus (Farmingville, N.Y.) and a Jordan Brown (Glastonbury, Conn.) 43-yard scamper. The Colonials scored the next 14 points, however, before Ricardo McCray (Middletown, R.I.) caught a screen pass and brought it 43 yards to paydirt. Westerhaus threw for a program-record 350 yards and tied a school record with four passing touchdowns.

LAST YEAR IN SMITHFIELD
Trailing by five, 40-35, with just over a minute left and the ball on the Monmouth six, the Bulldogs were thrwarted on a fourth-down pass in falling to the Hawks for the fourth consecutive season. Trailing 33-14 late in the third quarter, the Bulldogs made things interesting with three scores over the final 17 minutes.

Monmouth rattled off 19-straight points before Jordan Brown's two-yard touchdown run with 2:04 remaining in the third quarter made it 33-21. Brown added a 38-yard scamper to make it 33-28, and Matt Tracey's 11-yard TD grab with 5:31 remaining got the Black and Gold within five.

Brown rushed for 160 yards and three scores and Jordan Harris caught five passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Monmouth has shown itself to be one of the top offensive teams in the Northeast Conference this season. Depsite dropping their last two games, the Hawks are still averaging 30.8 points per game and a league-high 425.3 yards per game. MU features the league's top passing offense as fifth-year senior Kyle Frazier has put on a clinic. The veteran signal caller racked up a league-record 513 yards of total offense against Cornell last weekend and is averaging 265 yards through the air per game.

Defensively, Dan Sullivan's 41 tackles and five sacks lead the team. Defensive lineman Eric Macik has turned four of his nine tackles into sacks and also registered a team-high four QB hurries.

HARRIS WINS GOLD HELMET
For the first time in his career, Jordan Harris won the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award presented by the New England Football Writers Association. His 10-catch, 201-yard, two-touchdown performance against RMU was the best individual performance in New England. He becomes the second Bryant player to win the award this year after Jordan Brown won it after his week two performance against Saint Francis (PA). Harris also earned two other awards for his performance as he was named Honorable Mention Wide Receiver of the Week for the second time by College Football Performance Awards and the NEC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will enjoy their lone bye week of the season next weekend. They will use the week to prepare for their final home game of the season against Sacred Heart on Nov. 3. The Black and Gold will honor their senior prior to kickoff against the Pioneers.
