SPRING FOOTBALL OPENS FOR BULLDOGS; SPRING GAME ON APRIL 20

FULL SPRING SCHEDULE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Under the watchful eye of tenth-year head coach Marty Fine, the Bryant University football team began its spring practices last week in preparation for its annual Black and Gold Spring Football Game to be held on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m.

Coming off its first losing season since 2009, the 2013 edition of the Bulldogs takes the field over the next several weeks looking to put the past behind them. Bryant started 2012 0-6 but won four-straight games to salvage a 4-4 finish in Northeast Conference play.

This spring, however, brings a great deal of optimism as eight starters return on offense and nine starters return on defense. Leading the way will be All-American wide receiver Jordan Harris (Lincoln University, Pa.) and All-New England defensive lineman Jeff Covitz (Reading, Mass.). The Bulldogs also return a solid cast of players around those two centerpieces, including a fully healthy secondary that features Jeremy Woodson (Houston, Texas), Max Machado (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), Michael Johnson (New Market, Md.), Bobby Rutland (Bethesda, Md.), Charles Wingate (Englewood, N.J.) and Brandon Dagnesses (Miami, Fla.).

Bryant's spring schedule includes four weeks of practice that culminates with the Black and Gold Spring Game on April 20. The Bulldogs open the 2013 season at home on Saturday, August 31 vs. Holy Cross.
