Bulldogs unveil 2013 football schedule

FOOTBALL TO HOST SEVEN GAMES DURING THE 2013 SEASON

2013 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Highlighted by seven games inside the friendly confines of Bulldog Stadium, 10th-year head coach Marty Fine announced the 12-game 2013 Bryant University football schedule on Tuesday.

Coming off a 4-7 season overall and a 4-4 finish in Northeast Conference play, the Bulldogs have once again challenged themselves in 2013. The seven home games are the most since the 2010 season and the Bulldogs will face four quality non-conference opponents from the Patriot League, Colonial Athletic Association and the IVY League. Bryant will also host Division II Assumption and has six NEC games scheduled for a total of 12 games, the most in program history.

The 2013 season opens on the final day of August as Holy Cross will make the short trip down Route 146 from Worcester. It will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools. The following week, the Bulldogs will renew an old NE-10 rivalry as they welcome Assumption to Bulldog Stadium. Bryant is 9-0 all-time against the Greyhounds.

Bryant then begins arguably its toughest three-game road stretch in program history. It begins on September 14 with a trip to Orono, Maine, to face the University of Maine. The Black Bears have defeated the Bulldogs each of the last two seasons. Bryant enjoys its bye week the following Saturday before making back-to-back trips to the greater New York area. The Bulldogs open NEC play on the 28th in Staten Island against defending league champion Wagner, and then return to face Stony Brook on October 5. Bryant is 3-2 against the Seahawks and lost its only meeting with the Seawolves back in 2007.

Following a month-long hiatus from Smithfield, the Bulldogs start a three-game homestand on October 12 when they welcome intra-state rival Brown to Bulldog Stadium. The first meeting between the two schools will be played in front of a full house as Bryant will be celebrating Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. The Bulldogs then host a pair of NEC games as Sacred Heart (Oct. 19) and Duquesne (Oct. 26) visit Smithfield over the next two weeks.

Bryant wraps up its 12-game schedule with four games in the month of November beginning with a trip to Moon Township, Pa., to face Robert Morris on Nov. 2. The Bulldogs then return to Bulldog Stadium to wrap up the home portion of their schedule with contests against Saint Francis (Nov. 9) and former NEC member Monmouth (Nov. 16). Bryant closes its season with a trip to New Britain, Conn., on Nov. 23 to face Central Connecticut.
