Westerhaus named to CFPA watch list

WESTERHAUS ON CFPA WATCH LIST

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a stellar junior season last fall, rising senior quarterback Mike Westerhaus (Farmingville, N.Y.) was recently named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Quarterback Award watch list.

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

"Congratulations to Bryant quarterback Mike Westerhaus on earning a spot on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," stated CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "With continued improvement in passing accuracy, Westerhaus could become the second CFPA recipient at Bryant, following 2011 tight end Matt Tracey."

Westerhaus is one of 28 quarterbacks listed on the watch list and the only one from the Northeast Conference. Last fall in his first season as Bryant's starting quarterback, Westerhaus became the first QB in school history to throw for over 2,000 yards in a season. He completed 167-of-327 passes for 2,384 yards and 19 touchdowns. Westerhaus led the NEC in touchdown passes and finished second in passing yards and yards per game. He also set program records for passing yards and tied the record for touchdown passes in a game as he threw for 350 yards and four scores against Robert Morris.

The Bulldogs will open the 2013 season on August 31 when they host Holy Cross at Bulldog Stadium.
