Football names Guthro, Lazo captains for 2017

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head football coach James Perry is excited to announce rising juniors Dillon Guthro (Newburyport, Mass.) and Kevin Lazo (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) as the captains for the upcoming 2017 season.

Guthro and Lazo are both heavy on experience and enter their fourth year with the program. Guthro has appeared in all but one game he's been healthy for, while Lazo has played in all but one game over the last two years.

After suffering a season-ending injury in the first game of 2015, Guthro returned last year to start all 11 games at defensive end. He put up a career-year as well, posting 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss.

Lazo missed his entire true freshman season with an injury but has proven to be a force in the middle of Bryant's defensive line over the past two years. In 2016, Lazo made 46 stops and also blocked a pair of field goals. 

The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on September 2 when they host Merrimack. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Beirne Stadium.
