Three from Bryant football earn weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Two days after a big victory over Fordham on Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, three members of the Bryant University football team were honored with Northeast Conference weekly honors and two were recognized as STATS FCS Honorable Mention Players of the Week.

Redshirt junior Price Wilson (Marietta, Ga.) was named the offensive player of the week, junior Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) took home defensive player of the week honors and freshman Isaac McCray (Middletown, R.I.) was named rookie of the week. In addition, redshirt sophomore Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla.) was tabbed an NEC Prime Performer. Costigan and McCray both received honorable mention accolades for national defensive player and national rookie of the week honors.

Wilson set the Bryant single-game passing record on Saturday against the Rams, finishing the afternoon 26-of-44 for 393 yards and two touchdowns. He helped the Bulldogs erase an 11-point deficit in the second half with TD passes of 62 and 80 yards. Wilson's 62-yard connection with senior Tom Kennedy (Farmingdale, N.Y.) brought Bryant within three and he extended the Bulldogs' lead to 11 with an 80-yard strike to Constant on 3rd-and-12 in the fourth quarter. He was also responsible for three of Bryant's five fourth-down conversions on the afternoon. Wilson ran 10 yards on 4th-and-4 and then completed an 11-yard pass on 4th-and-3 to extend the Bulldogs' second drive which ended in seven points.

Costigan picks up defensive player of the week honors after posting 10 tackles, a sack and an interception against Fordham. He posted his first interception of the season in the first quarter, picking off Fordham's Kevin Anderson at the Bryant 1. Costigan then sacked Anderson on 1st-and-10 from the Bryant 42 later in the quarter to help derail the Fordham drive. Five of Costigan's tackles resulted in a gain of two yards or fewer for the Rams.

McCray had a breakout performance against Fordham, becoming the first true freshmen in Bryant's DI history to rush for over 100 yards in a game. He picked up 123 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and finished with 175 all-purpose yards on 24 total touches. McCray put Bryant on the board with a 15-yard touchdown run in the first half and then gave the Bulldogs a 31-27 lead with an electrifying 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He averaged 5.86 yards per carry.

Constant earns a primer performer nod after totaling 191 all-purpose yards and two scores in the Bulldogs' win. He registered his first-career 100-yard receiving game with four catches for 101 yards, rushed once for a three-yard score and returned three kicks for 87 yards. Constant's 42-yard kick return at the end of the second quarter set up a Bryant field goal and his two touchdowns came less than three minutes apart in the fourth quarter and put the Black and Gold ahead for good. He took a handoff on first-and-goal from the three to put Bryant ahead 38-34 and then blew by the defense for an 80-yard touchdown reception to make it 45-34. The 80-yard reception is the second-longest in program history and the longest since 2013.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant improved to 2-0 at Beirne Stadium this season and 5-0 since the renaming last September. The Bulldogs are 14-3 at home since the start of 2014.
  • The Bulldogs set a single-game program record with 608 yards of total offense in the win. It is the first time in program history they have topped the 600-yard mark.
  • Bryant is currently third nationally in first downs (103) and ninth nationally in total offense (498.8).
  • Wilson has thrown for 1,419 yards in his first four games with the Bulldogs and currently ranks third in the FCS and fifth among all DI QBs in passing yards. He also ranks third in the FCS in passing yards per game (354.8).
  • Wilson now holds three of the top four single-game passing marks in program history.
  • Constant leads the NEC and is eighth nationally with 161.25 all-purpose yards per game this season.
  • With a sack on Saturday, Costigan is now third nationally with 1.38 sacks per game. He has 66 tackles, nine sacks, 14 tackles for a loss and four forced fumbles over his last eight games.
