Costigan, Constant earn NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) and redshirt sophomore Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla.) have been named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding performances at Wagner.

The weekly honors are the first for Costigan and Constant and come after both helped the Bulldogs earn a 31-16 win over the Seahawks.

Costigan was locked in defensively for the Black and Gold on Saturday, finishing with 11 tackles, four tackles for a loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a QB hurry. His strip sack ended Wagner's first possession of the afternoon and set up a Bryant field goal. Costigan went on to limit the offense to three yards or less with nine of 11 tackles, including a tackle in the backfield on a 2nd-and-10 from inside the Bryant redzone. He now leads the NEC with eight sacks and ranks fifth nationally with 1.00 sacks per game.

Constant delivered the fireworks on Saturday, returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to put Bryant ahead for good. With the game tied, 3-3, in the first quarter, Constant received the kick a yard deep in his own endzone and proceeded down the Wagner sideline for the momentum-swinging score. It was Constant's first-career kick return TD and also tied the program record for longest kick return that was set by Jose Depadua in 2013. Constant now leads the NEC and ranks 12th nationally with 26.8 yards per return.
