Kennedy, Costigan named to All-New England team

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football senior Tom Kennedy (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) have been selected to the All-New England football team, as announced by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation on Monday.

Kennedy and Costigan are first-time honorees and the recognition comes a week after both were named First Team All-Northeast Conference. Bryant has now had 16 All-New England selections and at least one in each of its 10 years at the Division I level.

Kennedy made a triumphant return to the football field this fall, leading the Bulldogs in receptions (57) receiving yards (888), receiving touchdowns (9), rushing touchdowns (3) and total touchdowns (12). He posted five 100-yard games and scored a touchdown in each of the final eight games of the year. Kennedy's five 100-yard games are the most since former All-New England selection Jordan Harris did it seven times in 2012, while his number of receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns all rank in the top three in a single season in program history.

Costigan, the 2017 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, enjoyed one of the best defensive seasons in program history. He became just the second player in school history to post 100+ tackles, finishing second in a single season with 103. Costigan also tied the single-season sack record with 11.5 and finished with 17 tackles for a loss, tied for fifth in a single season. He posted 10+ tackles on five occasions, had three sacks in a win over Robert Morris and forced four fumbles on the year. Costigan currently ranks third nationally in sacks per game (1.05), fourth nationally in forced fumbles (0.36) and 11th in tackles for a loss (1.5).

The entire All-New England football team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Association Annual Awards and Captains Banquet on December 5.
