Perry announces Ben Martin as offensive line coach

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football coach James Perry is excited to announce the addition of Benjamin Martin to the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Martin will serve as the offensive line coach and joins the Bulldogs after most recently serving as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Division III Union (N.Y.) College.

"We are thrilled to have Ben Martin and Alex Kurtz join our staff," Perry said. "Ben has a wealth of experience working in the NFL and college ranks. While at Princeton, Ben served as our running backs coach and I am excited to be working with him again here at Bryant."

Martin brings 11 years of coaching experience to the sidelines in Smithfield. He spent his last two seasons at Union, helping the Dutchmen go 7-3 in the regular season and earn a spot in the New York State Bowl in 2017. Martin oversaw an offense that improved over 142 spots in rushing offense in his first year at Union.

Prior to his time at Union, Martin spent two seasons as an offensive assistant with the Miami Dolphins. He worked with the offensive line and assisted in all aspects of game planning, practice preparation, film breakdown, playbook management and draft analysis. Martin spent the 2013 season as the offensive line/run game coordinator at Wagner College and the 2012 season as the running backs coach at Princeton University, working with Perry who was the offensive coordinator at the time.

Martin spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons at Texas A&M, helping the Aggies to appearances in the Cotton Bowl and Meineke Car Care Bowl. He served as the offensive quality control/graduate assistant. Martin worked for Perry's brother, John, at Merrimack in 2008 and 2009. He served as the assistant head coach, run-game coordinator and recruiting coordinator, turning the Warriors into one of the nation's most prolific offensive teams and helping them win the 2009 NE-10 championship. Martin successfully recruited two NE-10 MVPs, two NE-10 Defensive Players of the Year, an NE-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year, an NE-10 Offensive Player of the Year and six All-Americans. Martin's coaching career began as an offensive line and tight ends coach at Curry College. The Colonels won the New England Football Conference title in his only season in 2007.

Martin graduated from Trinity (Conn.) College in 2005 with a degree in Political Science. He led the Bantams to three-straight NESCAC titles.
