Costigan, Constant named STATS FCS Preseason All-Americans

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football duo of Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) and Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla.) have been tabbed Second Team Preseason All-Americans by STATS FCS, the outlet announced on Tuesday.

Costigan and Constant become the first players in program history to earn the honor from STATS FCS, while also becoming the first preseason All-Americans since the 2015 season. They are two of just five student-athletes from the Northeast Conference listed.

The 2017 NEC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, Costigan returns for his senior season this fall after posting 103 tackles and 11.5 sacks a year ago. He tied the single-season program record for sacks and also forced four fumbles on his way to becoming just the fourth AP All-American in program history. Costigan has enjoyed one of the best stretches in program history, posting 138 tackles (9.9 per game), 15 sacks, 25 tackles for a loss and seven forced fumbles over his last 14 games dating back to 2016.

Constant finds a place on the STATS FCS Preseason All-American team after he became the first player in program history to earn All-American honors from STATS FCS last fall. The first kick returner to earn All-American honors in program history, Constant broke the school record for return yards (989) and finished the season ranked second nationally in kick return yards (1,019), fifth in all-purpose yards per game (148.45) and seventh in kick return average (27.5).

The Bryant University football team begins its 20th season on September 1 vs. New Haven. Tickets are available at BryantBulldogs.com/Tickets.
