Football announces 2019 team captains

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football head coach Chris Merritt officially announced the team captains for the 2019 season on Wednesday morning.

Seniors Robert Brown (Palmetto Bay, Fla.), Vincent Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J.), Alex Rasmussen (Fallston, Md.) and Eulogio Portugal (Rosedale, N.Y.), and junior Finn Littlefield (Nashua, N.H.) were selected by their peers.

Brown was one of the Bulldogs' starting linebackers in all 11 games last fall, finishing the year with 70 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He has appeared in 29 career games and has 119 career tackles.

Nisivoccia is coming off a career year that saw him catch 50 passes for 691 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 496 return yards and finished top five in the Northeast Conference with 1,353 all-purpose yards.

Rasmussen also enjoyed a breakout year in 2018, finishing with 22 catches for 234 yards and a touchdown. He tripled both his reception total and receiving yards total last fall, with his lone TD serving as the game-winning score in Bryant's win at Duquesne.

Portugal started all 11 games at strong safety last fall, posting 50 tackles (30 solo). He also intercepted a pair of passes, returning one 98 yards for a touchdown.

Littlefield appeared in all 11 games on the offensive line last fall, playing mostly on the right side. He was named to both the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll and NEC Academic Honor Roll.

The Bulldogs open the 2019 season on Thursday, August 29 at Stony Brook. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
