Football Season Preview: Wide Receivers

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team opens the 2019 season on Aug. 29 at Stony Brook. BryantBulldogs.com will preview the 2019 Bulldogs position-by-position over the next two weeks.

Wide Receivers

Returning: Jack Cappelletti (Milford, Mass.), Matthew Caruso (Brockton, Mass.), Jake Cusson (Westborough, Mass.), Josh Gebing (Cincinnati, Ohio), Vincent Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J.), Mike O'Connor (Fair Haven, N.J.), Zach Pezza (North Kingstown, R.I.), Alex Rasmussen (Fallston, Md.), Benjamin Ross (East Bridgewater, Mass.), David Zorrilla (Everett, Mass.)

Newcomers: Anthony Frederick (Hollywood, Fla.), Hunter Hill (Memphis, Tenn.), Matthew Prochaska (Danville, Calif.), Psaveon Reaves (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Will Stearns (Fairfield, Conn.), Shai Young (Albany, N.Y.)

Notes and Notables

  • Bryant returns 10 wide receivers and welcomes six to the group in 2019.
  • Of the 10 returners, three played in all 11 games a season ago (Nisivoccia, Rasmussen, Zorrilla).
  • Nisivoccia returns as the most experience of the group, having caught 79 passes for 1,072 yards and seven TDs over the last two seasons.
  • Nisivoccia was one of two Bryant players (Tomas Wright) to earn Preseason All-NEC honors.
  • In addition, Nisivoccia rushed for 147 yards and finished with 1,353 all-purpose yards.
  • Rasmussen posted 22 receptions for 234 yards and a touchdown last fall, finishing fourth on the team in catches.
  • Zorrilla's first-career reception was a 23-yard TD reception and he finished the year with 16 catches for 146 yards.
  • Hill joins the Bulldogs after spending three years at FBS member Memphis.
  • Frederick, Prochaska, Stearns, Reaves and Young all enjoyed standout high school careers.
  • Bryant's running backs also contributed in the passing game last year, combining for 24 receptions.      

Fun Fact

  • Nisivoccia posted a pair of 100-yard receiving games last fall, including a career-high 116 yards against Robert Morris.    

The Bulldogs open the 2019 season on Thursday, August 29 at Stony Brook. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
