Costigan '19 signs with Edmonton in the CFL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football alum Tom Costigan '19 has signed a contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League on Friday afternoon.

Costigan becomes the first Bulldog alum to sign a contract with a CFL team. He joins former teammate Tom Kennedy in signing a professional football contract in the last year.

The 2017 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year appeared in all 44 games over the course of his four-year career. Costigan graduated with a program-record 285 tackles, surpassed this season by Jesse Nemerowicz, 26.0 sacks, 46.5 TFLs, 13 forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Costigan is the only player in school history to post back-to-back seasons with 100+ tackles, registering 103 during his defensive player of the year season in 2017 and 109 as a senior in 2019. His 109 tackles are the most by a player in a single season in program history.

The 2020 CFL season begins with preseason games on May 24 and the Eskimos play their first regular-season game on June 11. For more on the CFL, click here.
