Perryman named NEC Defensive Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University football junior Derrius Perryman was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Perryman picks up the first weekly honor of his career after helping the Bulldogs earn a 14-7 victory over Merrimack on Sunday. He finished with eight tackles, a sack, 1.5 TFLs and a forced fumble.

After Bryant took a 7-0 first-quarter lead, Perryman blew up Merrimack's ensuing drive. The linebacker stepped in on a third-down tackle that dropped that ball carrier for a one-yard loss and summoned the punt team onto the field. With Merrimack moving into Bryant territory on a second-quarter possession, Perryman forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs at their 32-yard line. With Bryant protecting a 14-7 lead late, and Merrimack's 2:00 minute offense on the field, Perryman dropped the passer for an 8-yard loss on a 2nd-and-6 play.

Sunday was just the second game of Perryman's career. He missed his first two seasons with injuries before making his collegiate debut at Long Island on March 7.

In addition, Daniel Adeboboye was named an NEC Prime Performer. Adeboboye rushed for 141 yards on 19 carries, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. The 141 yards are the second-most for Adeboboye in his career.

Bryant plays its first home game of the spring this weekend when it welcomes Wagner to Beirne Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
