Season Preview: Special Teams

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University football team opens its 2022 season on Thursday, September 1 when it faces Florida International in Miami.

Leading up to kickoff BryantBulldogs.com will preview the 2022 Bulldogs.

Special Teams

Returners: Ethan Gettman, David McCain, Kyle Forsley, Jimmy O'Brien, William Enright, Andrew Daragjati, David Zorrilla, Anthony Frederick, Shai Young, Ishod Byarm, Fabrice Mukendi

Newcomers: Bryce Soli

Bryant returns a strong core on special teams despite the loss of two-time All-NEC kicker Luke Samperi. Looking to fill the void will be Ethan Gettman, a junior who served as Bryant's primary punter a year ago. This season, he'll get a chance at PATs and field goals after placing nine of his 31 punts inside the opponents' 20. Gettman also set a program record last year with an 82-yard punt against Saint Francis U.

David Zorrilla also returns after punting 11 times last year. He averaged 38.3 yards per punt and had a long of 51.

McCain is back as the long snapper and is a preseason All-Big South selection by Phil Steele. This will be McCain's second-straight year as the starter.

In terms of returners, Bryant brings back several that have experience including Shai Young, Anthony Frederick, Ishod Byram and Fabrice Mukendi. Young returned eight kicks a season ago, averaging 25.1 yards per return. He also returned five punts.
