Bulldogs earn honors from Phil Steele and The Blue Bloods

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The postseason honors continued for the Bryant University football team as several student-athletes were selected to the Phil Steele and The Blue Bloods All-Big South teams. 

Leading the way was Joe Andreessen, named The Blue Bloods Big South Defensive Player of the Year. Andreessen was named to the Phil Steele and The Blue Bloods first team as a linebacker. In total, Bryant had 12 players recognized by the two publications.

Notes and Notables

  • Frederick earned three different citations from Phil Steele as he was recognized as a first team selection at kick returner and all-purpose performer and a second team wide receiver. 
  • Ruggieri, Dyson Jr., Andreessen, Gettman and Frederick were also voted All-Big South by the coaches. 
  • Watts and Smith both repeat as all-league selections from Phil Steele. Both were All-NEC Second Team choices in 2021. 
  • Jihad Edmond jumps up to the second team this year after earning third team honors last fall.

Notes and Notables

  • Chosen by many outlets as the second team QB, Eckhaus appears on the Blue Bloods first team. Eckhaus led the Big South in completions, passing yards, total offense and passing touchdowns.
  • Ruggieri, Dyson Jr., Andreessen, Gettman and Frederick make it a clean sweep for first team all-league honors.
