Bulldogs open season at UNLV

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team begins the 2023 season on the road in Las Vegas against FBS opponent UNLV on Saturday.

This is the third consecutive season (second opener) that the Bulldogs have faced an FBS opponent.

  • The Bulldogs will begin their first season in the Big South-OVC Association.
  • The Black and Gold return ten starters on offense.
  •  In his last two seasons, Zevi Eckhaus has recorded 5,620 passing yards, 47 TDs, 486 completions, and 255.5 y/g.
  • Kenny Dyson Jr. looks to continue climbing the all-time ranks as he enters his fifth year, ninth all-time in sacks with 16.5.
  • Anthony Frederick was named the Big South Special Teams Player of the Year after leading the country in return yards with 901 and fourth nationally in yards per return (30.0).
  • In the previous two FBS matchups, the Bulldogs led in both games heading into the fourth quarter.

A bit about the Rebels

  • Barry Odom begins his first season as head coach of the Rebels.
  • UNLV finished 5-7 last season.
  • The Rebels averaged 26.3 ppg in 2022 while allowing 28.5 ppg.
  • Doug Brumfield lines up behind center, and he recorded 16 TDs (10 passes and six rush) last season.
  • The Rebels are 9-v all-time vs. FCS opponents.
