Bulldogs close season at Monmouth with tough loss

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team fell to Monmouth, 4-0, Sunday afternoon in West Long Branch, N.J., in both team's regular season finale.

The Bulldogs (4-13, 1-4 MAAC) failed to find the back of the net in their final contest of the 2014 season while the Hawks (11-7, 4-1 MAAC) solidified their spot in the upcoming MAAC Tournament.

Monmouth got off to a fast start, scoring a pair of tallies in the first 17 minutes, and never looked back. Alyssa Ercolino broke the scoreless tie at the 11:42 scooping up a rebound and putting home her fifth goal of the year and Trish O'Dwyer scored her 16th marker of the year at the 16:12 mark off a corner to put the hosts up 2-0 at the half.

Out of halftime, Monmouth continued its strong play adding two more scores in the second half en route to the 4-0 victory.

Bryant managed to fire off just four shots in the game with Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) and Nicole Plante (Smithfield, R.I.) putting attempts on goal. Senior goalkeeper Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) made eight saves on the day, while Christen Piersanti stopped both Bulldogs shots on goal in the win.
