Big second half lifts Bryant past UNH, 70-46, on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Antwan Walker, Earl Timberlake and Charles Pride combined for 53 points and 29 rebounds to lead the Bryant University men's basketball team to a 70-46 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the America East. Bryant swept the Wildcats during the regular season, ending their three-game winning streak. Both of Bryant's wins this week snapped its opponent's three-game streaks.

Walker had his best game in two weeks, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Pride finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Timberlake posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.

How it Happened

  • Saturday started slow for both teams as UNH led 8-7 with 11:51 left in the first half.
  • The Bulldogs were able to grab a six-point lead, 16-10, as Latimer finished at the rim and Walker drilled a three from the top.
  • UNH tied the game on back-to-back threes but Bryant answered with a pair of baskets to make it 20-16 with 6:07 left.
  • Walker's third three of the half gave Bryant a 23-22 lead and back-to-back baskets from Pride gave the Black and Gold a 27-25 lead.
  • After a three-point play but the Wildcats back up, Walker leapt high for a rebound and finished the putback to make it 29-28.
  • UNH was able to hit a mid-range jumper with three seconds left in the half to take a 30-29 lead into the break.  
  • Bryant opened the second half with a 15-2 run to take a 44-32 lead with 15:24 left. Timberlake scored his first six points of the afternoon to kick start the run and Pride finished a hard layup to make it 39-32.
  • A Gross-Bullock layup and a transition three from Pride made it a 12-point game, 44-32, with 16:32 left. Brelsford then sank a three from the top to make it 51-32. The three capped an 18-0 run and a 22-2 start to the half for Bryant.
