Bulldogs fall to UVM on Saturday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sherif Gross-Bullock finished with 25 points but the Bryant University men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle, 70-66, on Saturday afternoon at a sold out Chace Athletic Center.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 17-11 overall and 8-7 in America East play. The Bulldogs are currently in a three-way tie for third place with New Hampshire and Binghamton with one game to play.

Gross-Bullock led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Charles Pride added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in 38 minutes. Earl Timberlake chipped in five points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Kvonn Cramer and Antwan Walker each had eight.

  • Vermont held Bryant without a point for nearly four minutes late in the second half and Finn Sullivan's three-pointer at the 3:33 mark gave the Catamounts the lead for good.

How it Happened

  • Bryant took an 11-10 lead into the first media timeout thanks to threes from SGB (2) and Pride (1).
  • Out of the media, the Bulldogs tossed it up and Cramer threw down a thunderous jam.
  • The Catamounts would respond with a 6-0 run to take a 16-13 lead before Timberlake knotted the score with his first three of the season.
  • Bryant would take a 24-20 lead before a 9-0 run gave the Catamounts a 29-24 lead.
  • Bryant battled back to take a 32-31 lead as Gross-Bullcok finished in transition with 4:23 left.
  • The Catamounts would grab a 39-38 lead at the break.
  • Vermont would build a six-point lead early in the second half before Walker drilled his second triple of the half at the 15:02 mark.
  • The Catamounts would push the lead to six but Bryant answered with an 8-0 run to take a 52-50 lead with 11:57 to play. Gross-Bullock converted a three-point play to make it a one-point game and Pride gave Bryant the lead with a corner three.
  • Vermont would once again respond, taking a 57-54 lead with 7:18 to play.
  • SGB, however, canned two free throws and then finished a floater to give Bryant a 58-57 lead.
  • After the Catamounts answered, SGB threw up a lob and Cramer sent it out to give Bryant a 60-59 lead with 5:17 left.
  • The points would be Bryant's last points until the 1:43 mark. Bryant was able to get within three numerous times down the stretch but a pair of threes with 30 seconds left were off the mark and ended the game.
