Bulldogs fall to UML on Thursday night

LOWELL, Mass. – The Bryant University men's basketball team fell to UMass Lowell, 89-67, on Thursday night at the Costello Athletic Center.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 17-12 overall and 9-5 in the America East. Bryant will return to the Chace Athletic Center on Saturday to host NJIT at 4:00 p.m.

On Thursday, a slew of second half technical fouls helped the River Hawks pull away, pushing a six-point edge to 12 with 12 minutes to play.

Daniel Rivera led Bryant with 29 points and 11 rebounds. He added two steals and three blocks. Earl Timberlake chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

How it Happened

  • Bryant got off to a good start on Thursday thanks to Rivera and Timberlake. Rivera threw down a pair of slams to make it 15-9 and then Timberlake made it 17-12 with a layup inside.
  • UMass Lowell would then score the next 16 points to take a 28-17 lead with 7:06 left in the half.
  • Bryant would scrap back into it, getting a three from Withers to make it 26-33 with 4:38 left.
  • Three free throws from Tyler Brelsford would make it a two-point game, 31-33, with 2:50 left in the half.
  • The River Hawks would take a 41-35 lead to the break.
  • Bryant would start out strong in the second half, pulling within two on a Gross-Bullock layup with 15:29 left.
  • A slew of technical fouls then allowed UMass Lowell to open the lead.
  • The River Hawks would hold a 68-56 lead into the under-8 media.
  • UMass Lowell was able to pull away at the end, earning an 84-65 victory.
