Dawgs defeat Stags in nighttime showdown

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team extended their win streak to two games as they earned their most dominant win of the season; beating Fairfield 16-5 Wednesday night at Beirne Stadium. The Bulldogs move to two games above .500 and head into conference play on a high note.

In just his second career game, freshman goalkeeper Scott Einarson put together an impressive outing as he posted 13 saves and held the Stags to 5.

Jack Lonsinger (3g, 1a) and Timmy Hackett (3g, 1a) also had hat tricks in the contest for Bryant.

  • Bryant would go on a 5-0 run in the second quarter to give them an 8-1 advantage as the first half was winding down..     

How it Happened

  • Jack Lonsinger opened up scoring under the lights with a goal at the 12:51 mark in the first to give Bryant a 1-0 lead.

  • After a Dawson Rielly score to put the Bulldogs up by two, Lonsinger would strike again and redirect a deflected shot from Mason Drouin to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage. 

  • Fairfield would finally get on the board after Bryce Ford scored with 3:26 remaining in the first.

  • The second quarter would see the Bulldogs dramatically extend their lead as contributions from Johnny Hackett, Tiernan Lathrop, and Aidan Goltz would help Bryant go on a 5-0 lead.

  • With 4:00 remaining in the half, Rob Moore would assist Reilly Sullivan for a Fairfield score. Bryant would go into halftime up 8-2.

  • The Stags would show signs of life early in the second half with back-to-back goals from Jason LaMay Jr. and Jake Gilbert.

  • Timmy Hackett would join his brother in the scoring column after grinding a narrow lane while sprinting to the right post.

  • While man-up with eight minutes to go in the fourth, the Hackett brothers would link up as Johnny would feed Timmy to put the Dawgs up by nine.

  • The final goals of the game would come from Mason Drouin would recorded his second of the night and Patrick Walsh who continues his impressive rookie campaign his fifth career goal.

  • The Bulldogs converted on 27-28 clear attempts.

  • Dawson Rielly scores for the second consecutive game and sets anew career high in goals with 2.

  • Bryant won the ground ball margin 40-33.

  • Connor Whalen led the team in caused turnovers with 2. 

  • The Bulldogs featured three different faceoff specialists at the X against Fairfield. Nathan Laliberte saw the bulk of the action and went 10-16. JJ Murphy went 3-7 and Jacob Alexander finished 0-2.

Game Notes

  • Bryant improves to 3-4 all-time against the Stags.

  • Tiernan Lathrop recorded his first career goal and assist on Wednesday.

  • The Bulldogs had five players with two or more goals against Farfield (Lonsinger, T. Hackett, Drouin, Rielly, & Goltz).

  • The Bulldogs are now 4-1 on the year when winning the ground ball margin.

  • Bryant has won the faceoff margin in all of their games so far this season.
