Larocque scores twice, Bulldogs blank NJIT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore forward Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) scored a pair of goals and the Bryant University defense shutdown the NJIT attack as the Bulldogs earned a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

With the victory, the Bulldogs (3-6) snap a three-match losing streak in their final non-conference game of the season. The Highlanders (4-6-1) saw their two-game winning streak snapped.

Coming off a tough loss in their last outing, the Black and Gold wasted little time getting going on Sunday. Just over five minutes into the contest, senior Tony Flaim (Fort Lee, N.J.) sent a long drive from midfield that Larocque was able to run onto and slip past the keeper with a pretty touch.

The Bulldogs remained ahead until the 72nd minute when Larocque struck again. Sophomore Marco Addonizio (Lynnfield, Mass.) fed Larocque the ball on top of the 18 and the shifty forward beat the NJIT keeper with a perfectly placed shot for his second marker of the game.

Bryant's defense did the rest as it allowed NJIT a total of four shots in the contest. Only two of the four shots made it on target as sophomore Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) picked up his second shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs will now have nearly a full two weeks off before beginning Northeast Conference play on Friday, Oct. 11 when they travel to western Pennsylvania to face Robert Morris.
