Bulldogs close non-conference action over weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a disappointing performance against Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon, the Bryant University men's soccer team will look to turn things around over the weekend when they visit St. Peter's (4 p.m.) on Friday before hosting NJIT on Sunday (1 p.m.).

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 2-5 overall mark and with just two non-conference matches left, a pair of victories would grant the Black and Gold some much needed momentum heading into Northeast Conference play.

On Friday, Bryant will head to Jersey City, N.J., for a showdown with the Peacocks. Coming off a 1-1 tie at Binghamton on Tuesday, St. Peter's enters Friday with a 1-4-2 overall mark. The Peacocks are led by forward Maddee Maddee's five points on three assists and a goal, while three other players sit tied with one goal apiece. Goalkeepers Carlos Suarez and David Giddings have split time in net thus far, allowing nine goals between the two.

Two days later, the Bulldogs will welcome NJIT to Smithfield for a match with Highlanders on the Bulldog Soccer Field at 1 p.m. NJIT enters weekend action with a 3-5-1 record, heading to URI on Friday before venturing north to Smithfield on Sunday. With a pair of one-goal losses to nationally ranked opponents (St. John's, FDU), the Highlanders losing record is not indicative of how talented they are. Displaying a balanced offensive attack, Marko Drljic leads the team with six points on two goals and two assists, while Sven Beverst and Tommy Osipitan are tied with a pair of scores each. Alexander Czempik and David Tuchinsky split time in goal, each allowing less than 1.30 goals per game in over 400 minutes in net apiece.

With this weekend marking the final two non-conference matches left on the Bulldogs' slate, Bryant will look to get back on track before opening Northeast Conference play on Fri., Oct. 11 at Robert Morris.
