Bulldogs fall to Rams in their second in-state match Friday night in Kingston

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team fell, 3-1, against the University of Rhode Island Friday night in Kingston.

The Bulldogs (0-2-0) faced the Rams (2-1-0) in their second in-state match of the season, falling short in regulation.

The Rams were off to a quick lead, scoring in the ninth minute when URI's Adam Camillo fired a shot at senior goal keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine). Knaub was unable to make a clean save as Jesman Sunde finished the play for the Rams.

Carlos Davids connected a pass to Mike Casey who beat two defenders and found the back of the net, putting URI up, 2-0.

Shortly before the end of the first period, the Bulldogs cut the lead in half when Sam Trueman (Bristol, England) recorded his first goal of the season, finishing a deflection from URI goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm. Junior midfielder Curtis Orth (Ancaster, Ont.) ripped a shot inside the box that Leifhelm was unable to possess and Trueman was there to clean up.

The Rams stretched their lead back to two after Dante Lamb capitalized on a corner kick from Carlo Davids, resulting in a 3-1 URI victory.

Knaub got the start for the Bulldogs, recording one save in 69 minutes. Sophomore Nick Stewart (South Windsor, Conn.) capped off the rest of the time in net, tallying two saves for the Black and Gold.

Nils played all 90 minutes for the Rams and finished with five saves off six attempts.

Orth led the Bulldogs in shot attempts (5) for the second consecutive game, while forward Thomas Binder (Vienna Austria) tallied three on the night.

The Bulldogs return to action for their home opener against Lafayette Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m.
