Bulldogs battled Leopards to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team made its first appearance of the 2015 season in Smithfield, tying Lafayette after double overtime on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (0-2-1) took an early lead in the game but the Leopards (2-0-2) responded in the second half, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Senior forward Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) capitalized on his first shot of the game, beating two defenders and finishing low past Leopards' keeper Brad Seeber. Larocque dribbled the ball right side, using his speed to move past the defense and sliding to fire the shot from a near impossible angle. The captain finished the game with two of his four shots on goal.

Senior Teddy Spanos (Garden City, N.Y.) logged three shots for the Bulldogs, while sophomore forward Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria) added two attempts to the 10-shot Bryant total.

Senior goalie Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) saw all 110 minutes between the pipes, fending off two of three Lafayette tries.

To open the second half, junior Curtis Orth (Ancaster, Ont.) received a yellow card, allowing the Leopards to gain a free kick nearly just outside the 18-yard box. Ben Marks took advantage of the penalty, finding the top left corner for the Lafayette equalizer.

The match continued into extra time, where both sides remained evenly matched, resulting in the 1-1 tie.

The Bulldogs remain in town, taking on Canisius Friday, September 11 at 3:00 p.m.
