Bulldogs held scoreless by Blackbirds in 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In a closely played match, the Bryant University men's soccer team loses, 1-0, to LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (2-6-3, 0-1-1) tallied 14 shots by eight different players, including a close attempt from senior Sam Trueman (Bristol, England) in the first half. Sophomore Thomas Binder (Vienna, Austria) led the category for the Black and Gold with five shots, placing one on frame.

The Blackbirds fired off (4-5-2, 2-0-0) 11 shots and it was Simen Hestnes that capitalized for LIU in the 35rd minute.

The Black and Gold pressured the Blackbirds defense throughout the match, including a header by senior Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) late in the game.

Senior goalie Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) gathered three saves in the match, while Blackbirds' keeper Logan Keys recorded five.

The Bulldogs return to play on Sunday, Oct. 18, when they host Sacred Heart in Smithfield at 1 p.m.
