SOFTBALL VISITS YALE WEDNESDAY FOR DOUBLEHEADER (3/5 P.M.) BEFORE HOSTING BROWN THURSDAY (4 P.M.)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a pair of wins over Wagner Saturday in Smithfield, the Bryant University softball team will get back to work this week with games at Yale on Wednesday (3/5 p.m.) and vs. Brown on Thursday (4 p.m.)

The Bulldogs (7-14, 3-5 Northeast Conference) found some redemption on Saturday against the Seahawks picking up two come-from-behind victories after dropping five-straight. In Game 1, Wagner jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just a half inning but, the Bulldogs responded scoring six of the next seven runs, highlighted by a three-run third inning, to win 6-4. Sophomore outfielder Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) paced Bryant with three (3-for-4), and RBI and two runs scored. Reigning NEC Rookie of the Week Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) threw six scoreless innings in relief, earning her second win of the year.

In Game 2, the Black and Gold rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, picking up the 8-7 victory. Junior shortstop Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) laced a two-run single through the right side to knot the game at 7-7, while classmate Taylor Bell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) smoked a two-out double to right-center to push the winning run across in dramatic fashion. Madsen picked up her second win of the afternoon, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings.

Through 21 games, Mable leads Bryant with a .369 batting average (24-for-65) to go along with her team-best 14 RBI. Just behind her is classmate Lauren Guy (La Habra, Colo.) who comes in at .333 with three homeruns, eight RBI and 14 runs scored. On the hill, Madsen leads the Bulldogs with a 4.02 era, while senior Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) has thrown 60.1 innings in 13 starts (4-6).

On Wednesday, Bryant will head to New Haven, Conn., for a showdown with Yale. The Connecticut Bulldogs come into the mid-week action with a 7-15 overall mark, going 3-1 in their opening Ivy League action on Saturday and Sunday. Sophomore catcher Sarah Onorato leads Yale with a .419 average with a whopping 31 hits, nine homers and 17 RBI. Freshman infielder Lauren Delgadillo is the only other Bulldogs hitting above .300 at .373 with three homeruns and eight RBI.
