SENIOR JENNIFER JACOB ALLOWS ONE RUN IN 10-1 WIN OVER BROWN THURSDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team earned its fifth-straight victory of the year over Brown on Thursday, topping the Bears, 10-1, in five innings at The Softball Complex at Conaty Park.

Senior Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) threw her best game of the 2013 campaign for Bryant (10-14, 3-5 Northeast Conference), allowing just one run on two hits in five innings of work.

The Bulldogs got things started in the bottom of the first when sophomore Madeline Velasquez (Los Angles, Calif.) blasted a two-run double to left center, scoring Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) and Kristen Carter (Branchville, N.J.) to put Bryant up 2-0.

In the second, Bryant pushed two more runs across off a Carter walk and a Mable infield single. The Bulldogs would score two more in the bottom of the third as they opened up a commanding 6-0 advantage after three.

Brown (6-13, 0-4 Ivy League) notched its lone score of the contest off a Jen Kries single in the top of the fourth, however Bryant responded with four more runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by back-to-back jacks from Christina Eringis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Jessica Benacquista (Belleville, N.J.). Erinigs blasted a three-run shot down the left field line right before Benacquista topped off the inning with a bomb to left center.

On the afternoon, Mable and classmate Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) continued their hot streaks as Mable went 3-for-3 (two doubles) with two runs and a RBI while Guy collected a pair of singles. Benacquista also enjoyed a solid game going 3-for-3 with three runs and a homer.

The Bulldogs will have just one day to prepare for their next Northeast Conference opponents as they welcome Saint Francis U. to Smithfield on Saturday for a doubleheader (1/3 p.m.)
