Bulldogs downed by Terriers on Saturday afternoon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior catcher Robyn Ukegawa (Carlsbad, Calif.) had an RBI single, but the Bryant University softball team fell to the Boston University Terriers, 10-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Hartford Softball Field in West Hartford.

  • Junior Kaleigh Goulart (Marion, Mass.) doubled into the gap in right-center field to start the fourth inning. She would score after Ukegawa singled to right field two batters later.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Terriers got the scoring started in the first inning. Jilee Schanda doubled down the right field line to score a run. After the Terriers loaded the bases, Alexa Ponce drew a walk to force in the second BU runner.
  • Boston U. scored again in the second inning after an RBI single to center field off the bat off Alex Heinen.
  • Ukegawa's single to score Goulart made it a 3-1 game in favor of the Terriers.
  • BU added seven runs in the fourth inning highlighted by an RBI triple down the line in right by Kaitlin Sahlinger.

STATS

  • Freshman Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.) struck out two batters in three innings of work.
  • Senior Gianna Pizzano (Saugus, Mass.) got the first hit of the game for Bryant in the third inning when she singled up the middle.
  • Freshman Alex Hickey (St. John, Ind.) reached base after she was hit by a pitch in the second inning.
  • Junior Jenna Cali (Franklinville, N.J.) stole a base after pinch-running for Ukegawa.

GAME NOTES

  • Cali's stolen base was the second of her career.
  • Goulart's run was her seventh of the season, tying her for the team lead. She also hit her third double of the season, tying her with Ukegawa to lead the Bulldogs.

Bryant will head back to Hartford on Sunday for a doubleheader with the University of Hartford Hawks. The first game is set to begin at 11 a.m.
