Distance runners pace Bulldogs on Sat.

BULLDOGS EARN FOUR TOP-10 FINISHES IN DISTANCE EVENTS AT URI SATURDAY

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sophomore Eimear Black's (Glengormley, Ireland) fourth-place finish in the 3000m run highlighted a strong effort from the Bryant University track and field's distance runners on Saturday at The Tribute to Charles Torpey Invitational at the University of Rhode Island.

In the non-scoring meet, Black qualified for the New England Championships with a time of 10:10.55, earning fourth place in a field of 24. The Bulldogs also got strong distance performances from Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.), Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.). Busby finished seventh in the 3000m run with a time of 8:44.99, Tomasetti was seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:21.02 and Twardowski finished ninth in the mile run with a time of 4:22.65. 

Other top-10 finishers for the Black and Gold included Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) in the 60m hurdles (9th-8.62), Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) in the 400m dash (8th-51.64), Tyler Egner (Niantic, Conn.) in the pole vault and Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) in the triple jump (10th-10.39m). Egner's height of 3.98m in the pole vault is the best showing of his career as he finished ninth in the event.

Several other Bulldogs also set personal bests on Saturday, including Jacob Gesin (Shirley, Mass.) in the 200m dash (24.81), Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) in the 500m run (1:09.58), Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) in the 60m hurdles (7.82), Amanda Dilley (Bridgewater, Mass.) in the 200m dash (27.56), Kim Warner (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the 400m dash (1:08.37) and Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) in the 3000m run (10:57.27).

The Black and Gold will now prepare for the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, Sat. and Sun., Feb. 11-12, at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
