BULLDOG T&F READY FOR 2012-13 SEASON, OPEN THIS WEEKEND AT BROWN

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After two months of preparation, the Bryant University track and field team opens its 2012-13 season on Saturday, December 1 at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown University.

Coming off a strong cross country season, head coach Steph Reilly's sixth Bulldog track and field team will again be lead by its distance runners. Reilly, however, has also added talented athletes in the shorter events and has the Black and Gold primed for a superb season.

Leading the way on the women's side will be the Northeast Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland). She is coming off a NEC championship in the fall and will spearhead a group of experienced distance runners. Joining Black will be the NEC Rookie of the Year Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) and Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) and Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.). Both Walsh and Tomasetti excelled in the 800 last season for the Black and Gold, with Walsh finishing 17th at New Englands and Tomasetti 11th at the NECs.

Bryant will also welcome back sophomore Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) after a sensational rookie campaign. Bryant broke four program records last season, including three during the indoor season. She broke the 55m hurdle record, 60m hurdle record and the triple jump mark. Senior Amanda Dilley (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) will give the Bulldogs strength in the sprint events.

On the men's side, captains Colin Gannon (Litchfield, Conn.) and David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) lead an experienced group of distance runners. Christopher Chapruet (Danvers, Mass.) and Jeffrey Dorosh (Naugatuck, Conn.) are both coming off strong cross country seasons and will provided depth in the distance events.

The Bulldogs also feature a strong core of 400m runners lead by junior Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.). Sprinters Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) give the Black and Gold experience and the opportunity to improve their score at NECs. Louine ran to a seventh-place finish in the 200m at the USATF-New England Championships last winter as a rookie.

Bryant will compete at the Alden Invitational this weekend and the Harvard Invitational next weekend before winter break hits. The NEC Championships will be hosted by Mount St. Mary's in Landover, Md., on Feb. 9-10.
