Todman shines as T&F opens season

TODMAN AND TOMASETTI EARN FIRST-PLACE FINISHES AT ALDEN INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) won the weight throw and finished second in the shot put as the Bryant University track and field team opened its 2012-13 season at the Alden Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 1) at Brown University.

Todman's stellar day highlighted a strong overall performance for the Bulldogs in their season-opening meet. With a throw of 14.74m, Todman claimed the weight throw before finishing second with a throw of 13.92m in the shot put. Bryant received its other first-place finish on the women's side, as Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) began her season with a victory in the 800 (2:25.80).

On the men's side, Bryant also received strong performances from Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.), Ryan Flanagan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.), Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.), Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.). Foley finished third in the 1000 with a time of 2:41.79, Flanagan was fourth in the 500 (1:10.17), Somers finished fourth in the pole vault (4.10m), Hill was fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.85) and Douglas (23.27) and Louine (23.39) finished 7-9 in the 200m dash, respectively.

Tomasetti's victory in the 800 highlighted another strong day for Bryant's distance runners. In her their first-career collegiate track meets, Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) and Staci Rezendes (Ludlow, Mass.) finished third and fifth in the 1000 and 3000, respectively. Tuxbury finished with a time of 3:09.39, while Rezendes crossed the line in 11:02.24. Other top performers on the women's side included Amanda Dilley (Bridgewater, Mass.), Jocelyn Davies (Yarmouth, Maine), Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) and Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.). Dilley finished 12th amongst 38 sprinters in the 200m dash with a time of 27.84, Davies finished ninth in the high jump (1.43m), Bryant was sixth in the triple jump (10.49m) and Kelleher finished eighth in the weight throw (12.88m).

The Bulldogs will head to Cambridge, Mass., next weekend (Dec. 8) to compete in the Harvard Invitational before taking off a month for finals and winter break.
